Spotted Drafts in the Spotlight Again
Our daughter, Resha Jacquier, of Southwick, MA, just won a statewide 4H photo
contest here in Massachusetts. The photo is the same one of Savannah and Dallas
that was on the snapshot page of the Spot Light this spring. She titled it
"Summer Lovin".

She won The Big E Award and the photo will be laminated and on display in the
New England Center at the Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, MA
during the fair days from Sept 17th - Oct 3rd. The Big E (http://www.thebige.com/bige.html)
is the tenth largest fair in North America. On the weekends, the fair usually
draws upwards toward 150,000 people in a day. The fair offers free top name
entertainment, major exhibits, agriculture, animals, rides, shopping, crafts,
and foods from around the world for 17 glorious days during New England's most
colorful season. Along with being on display during the fair, the photo will
also be made into notecards to sell as a fundraiser for 4H.
Resha is currently working toward her Silver Award in Girl Scouts, where her
service project is making Cancer Caps for Kids. She is also working on a
service project with 4-H making ABC Quilts, "At-risk Babies Crib" Quilts, for
babies who are hospitalized for long periods of time.
Resha is currently a sophomore at Suffield High School, Suffield, CT, where she
is enrolled in their agriscience program. At school, she is an active FFA
member, recently elected FFA Junior Sentinel and an alternate on their FFA Horse
Judging team. As it is with any girls' dream, Resha would love to incorporate
her (spotted draft) horses into a future business endeavor.

For
FFA, each student must design their own individual (SAE) supervised agricultural
experience program. It is designed for a student to gain hands-on experience
and develop skills in agricultural career areas that interest them. Resha's SAE
is to establish a quality spotted draft horse breeding program for our farm.
She is well on her way, since Savannah (bred to Angel Mist's Hopeview Mack) is
due to foal in the spring along with a newly acquired pregnant mare, Sandi.
Since she was 6 years old, Resha has been active in 4-H and currently an officer
in both her 4-H groups. Her activities in 4-H include sewing, science and
animals. She enjoys 4H Teen Conferences, livestock trips & attending summer camp
with her North American Spotted Draft Horse, Savannah, where she participates in
Drill Team and many other activities. Resha gives driving demonstrations with
Savannah, the most recent, at The Zoo at Forest Park over April vacation. She
has also recently won second prize for her driving demonstration and display at
a local FFA Competition. She volunteers herself with the team for fundraising
and 4-H Fun Day Events, where she gives buggy rides and all the money donated
for the rides goes directly to 4-H.
Resha,
Savannah and Dallas will be on hand at the Equine Affaire Massachusetts held at
the Big E Fairground Nov 11-14, 2004 to help out with the Spotted Draft Breed
Demonstration. Resha believes 4H, FFA and her Spotted Drafts are the driving
force behind her future.
Congratulations on your accomplishments Resha and keep driving towards
success!!
